Nexus (U) Limited: UN MONUSCO Entebbe, Uganda – Electrical Works for RMU 11KV, Transformer 500KVA, and 800A MCCB Installation
Nexus (U) Limited was tasked with delivering critical electrical infrastructure works for the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) in Entebbe, Uganda. The project focused on the installation and commissioning of an RMU 11KV (Ring Main Unit), a 500KVA transformer, and an 800A MCCB pillar, alongside various electrical works to support MONUSCO’s operations in the region.
Scope of Electrical Work
The project involved the installation and integration of electrical components crucial for the reliable power supply to the UN mission’s facilities, ensuring that energy requirements were met with a focus on safety, durability, and efficiency.
RMU 11KV (Ring Main Unit) Installation:
- The RMU is a key component in the electrical distribution network, designed to allow for flexible, reliable, and secure control of electricity flow. Nexus (U) Limited installed the RMU 11KV to improve the reliability and safety of electrical distribution across the site.
- The RMU helps to manage the electrical supply by isolating faults and maintaining continuous power, minimizing the impact of any electrical outages.
500KVA Transformer Installation:
- The 500KVA transformer was installed to step down the voltage from the higher voltage network to a level suitable for use by the mission’s facilities.
- Nexus (U) Limited carefully installed the transformer, ensuring its capacity meets the site’s power demand while adhering to safety standards and operational requirements.
800A MCCB Pillar Installation:
- The MCCB (Molded Case Circuit Breaker) pillar was designed to ensure safe distribution of electrical power. The 800A capacity MCCB is critical in protecting the electrical system by preventing overloads and short circuits, ensuring the safety of both equipment and personnel.
- The pillar’s installation was handled with precision, ensuring it is integrated effectively into the overall electrical distribution system.
Electrical Wiring and Distribution:
- The electrical works included extensive wiring to connect the RMU, transformer, and MCCB pillar to the broader distribution network within the MONUSCO facilities.
- Nexus (U) Limited ensured that all wiring was done in compliance with national and international safety standards to guarantee reliable and safe electricity distribution.
Testing and Commissioning:
- After installation, the system underwent rigorous testing to confirm that all components were functioning correctly. This included load testing for the transformer and checking the operational integrity of the RMU and MCCB pillar.
- Once all tests were passed, the system was officially commissioned, ready to provide reliable power to the mission’s infrastructure.
Benefits of the Electrical Works
Reliable Power Supply: The installation of the RMU, transformer, and MCCB pillar ensures that the UN MONUSCO facilities in Entebbe receive a stable and continuous power supply, supporting the operational needs of the mission.
Safety: The use of modern electrical equipment like the MCCB pillar ensures that the electrical distribution network is safeguarded against faults, protecting both personnel and assets.
Energy Efficiency: The new transformer and electrical systems are optimized for energy efficiency, reducing wastage and ensuring that power is distributed effectively.
Enhanced Infrastructure: The installation contributes to the overall enhancement of the electrical infrastructure, allowing the mission to operate smoothly without the risk of power interruptions.
Completion and Outcome
The electrical works at UN MONUSCO Entebbe were successfully completed, with Nexus (U) Limited ensuring that the installation was carried out on time and within budget. The installation of the RMU 11KV, 500KVA transformer, and 800A MCCB pillar greatly improved the reliability and safety of the electrical distribution system, providing robust support to the mission’s operations.
